The meaning, form and reform of the family by T. G. Masaryk
Kaňa, Jan ; Horský, Jan (advisor) ; Lenderová, Milena (referee) ; Moravcová, Mirjam (referee)
This study investigates and describes ideas of the proper form of family life and activism in this matter - efforts to persuade general public to adopt these ideas. This corresponds to the choice of the main goals of the study: 1. Show what the content of these ideas was. 2. Show the range of topics covered by the authors of these ideas. 3. Show the manners of this activism. What media these activists usually used, how they fought or cooperated with rival activists and who was "target" of their enlightenment efforts. 4. Answer the question "Why did these efforts arise at all?" Why there was a feeling that family is in crisis and in need of reform. The feeling that family is in crisis probably has its origin in the days of the first attempts to define the family. However, this study does not focus on the topic from its presumed origin, but from the last quarter of the nineteenth century to the second half of the 1930s. This period represents a time of boom of these enlightenment efforts in the Czech lands and it's also time of T. G. Masaryk. His ideas of the proper form of family life and activism in this matter form the backbone of this work. The reason for choosing Masaryk is given by the fact that he dealt with given topic in its wide range. He was a man who didn't avoid disputes with other...
Genealogy of Liberalism in America.
Váňa, Filip ; Klvaňa, Tomáš (advisor) ; Calda, Miloš (referee)
In this work I examine the notion that various, both past and present conceptions of liberalism in America share a commitment to identical fundamental values, as well as utilize a characteristic method of political philosophy, that can both be traced to the rationalist thought of the period known as the Enlightenment. However, because of its ever-changing constitutive setting and different understandings of the term, the meaning of liberalism can be often dark and its usage confusing. Therefore I find it necessary to approach this work as an investigation of a complex (and extremely influential) phenomenon in time. I argue that throughout most of the history of the American republic, it has been exactly this forward-looking, revolutionary, rationalist tradition of liberalism, that has gradually come to dominate not just American politics, but also the social and even the private lives of the American people. Based on the examinations of the different "genealogical branches" of liberalism, I make the case that even though we often imagine the prominent conflict between the American "conservatives" and "liberals" as a struggle of two categorically opposed worldviews, underneath their political agendas we find the same set of goals. And while both sides try to achieve them by their own, often...
Th. Roosevelt vs W. Wilson. Presidential election 1912 as a clash within the Progressive movement.
Langmajer, Jakub ; Tajovský, Ladislav (advisor) ; Johnson, Zdenka (referee)
The purpose of my assignment is to summarize facts, thoughts and assumptions and provide Progressive Era analyses in relation to the 1912 presidential elections. The respective campaigns of Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson can -- in general terms - be considered as a contest between the theoretical and the practical. This was evident in their varying approaches to both economic and social issues. Even within the Progressivism there were different points of view on the liberalism in the American democracy and strategic issues such as tax, customs duties and anti-monopoly policies. I will specifically examine this disparity in context of the social struggle between concentrated and organized capitalism and the progressive labor movement. Who were the people designing their election platforms, defining the state politics and consequently creating the rules? What was their vision? And what assumptions underlined their thinking? Have their ideas and its application in politics been successful? Finally, what was their political legacy in American society today?
Establishment of central bank in USA
Hendrych, Filip ; Tajovský, Ladislav (advisor) ; Szobi, Pavel (referee)
In December 1913 president of the United States W. Wilson signed Federal Reserve Act which declared American central bank and changed American banking system once and for all. Since that there is a permanent inflation in the United States which destroys value of dollar and influences life of people all over the world every single day. There was a long period of preparations before the act was signed. Many false reasons was submited to public to prove necessity of central bank and to hide the real reasons. There are many myths about establishment of the Federal Reserve System which I would like to clarify. There is many different opinion courses in economics. My bachelor thesis focused on this subject from Austrian point of view. Its primary focus is on the circumstances under which FED was established and on powerful people in the background whose influence was crucial during the time of foundation of this institution.
